Through the very long road God has taken me through, he has sent people to cross my path to change my life for the better in big and small ways. Some people know it, others do not. I try to smile at people or do little things to bless people on a regular basis but often my own selfishness or concentration imposes on my ability to do that. Today, however, two people blessed my life with such "little things" that of course for me are not so little.
In the chaos of the ever nearing Christmas and the tendency for it to become a very materialistic season, I had to go into a store although I vowed not to until after this crazy time. I needed trash bags. That was all I had. One thing and of course everyone else had overflowing carts. The lady in front of me, however, helped melt away some of the hardness of my heart as she asked the cashier to help me before helping her. Not a big deal I know, but it gave me hope. It showed me that although I have had many bad experiences with people and their selfishness there are really great people who will do little things that make big differences. Not all of the hungry children are fed but it is a small step of reassurance that people are basically good.
There is also a wonderful lady from the gym. We have interacted a few times and she has no clue as to the depth of the smiles and simple words and how they bring healing. The fact is she has no clue that I fought back tears during half of a class or the horrible thoughts that invade my head. She has no idea of the struggles that have overwhelmed me in the past years or days. But she loves and she loves well. She walks with Jesus and carries Him with her. And that makes the difference. All the difference in my day and my life. She is not living in some remote country but she uses her work as a mission field.
Again, there have been many such people in my life. I am fairly closed off so many of them have no idea what I am walking through when they show kindness. All that said, remember to take time to show love and kindness; show the face of Jesus. It may just brighten someones day a bit, but it may just save their life. Especially in this season take time and share the joy that you have. And even if you are lonely or hurting in this time, you do it too! You can bless someone else's life but you will walk away feeling better as well!
