The bible says that the road to destruction is wide and the road to righteousness is narrow. But sometimes that squeeze becomes just a little too unbearable. As cattle are herded home by their owners, I see the rebellion stirring in some of them. This larger group of cattle being brought into a tighter and tighter place until they go through the gate which allows room for only one cow at a time. There is poking and prodding to get them there and once they are there it is almost a place of constriction.
Sometimes I feel like that. Either the world is poking and prodding me or I am walking in what seems to be the right way and I feel constricted and like I don’t have an option to move or breathe. At least like I don’t have a choice as to which way I want to move. Then I feel trapped and want to run the other direction. The reality of it is, however that this narrow way in the end is what is in my best interest.
As the cows go through the chute they are being guided to a better place. In this instance the cows are directed to a place of shelter, food and rest. That is what God has for us and if we will follow him in the times where the road is narrow or wide, we will always be directed to that place of His love. This, we must hold onto, regardless of what it seems like because the Master sees more than we can see and always has His best for us.
